We present an artificial vision system for the measurement of train wheel profiles. This 3D measurement system is capable of measuring wheel profiles and obtaining their parameters automatically. It is designed to operate indoors with working temperatures between 0ºC and 40ºC or outdoors from -20ºC to 50ºC. High-resolution cameras are used in combination with lasers capable of measuring at speeds of up to 20 km/h. The system has a flexible design that allows it to be adapted to different configurations, elevated track, ballast, etc.
The software is a crucial part of the system and is responsible for performing the necessary tasks to ensure that the system runs correctly. The system is reliable, with a measurement accuracy of more than 95% and a resolution of a tenth of a millimetre.
